At Sigmer our designers are involved throughout the project process; from the early meetings with a client through to production of a website or application interface. Our design process keeps the client fully in control - with the number of concept designs and iterations of rework agreed in advance. Our website design and development process can be seen below, and you may also wish to view some of our website design and development examples and read about our technologies.

Consultation to concept design
Our design team works hard to fulfill our clients objectives, through an iterative process of information gathering, presentation of conceptual designs and client feedback.
Step 1: Information gathering
This first stage of the design process is the most important of all. We believe in taking the time to talk to and listen to our clients; working closely with them to develop a clear and detailed design brief and a selection of ‘user profiles’ which together provide most of the information we need to get started.
Step 2: Working it out together
An early 'brainstorming' workshop with Sigmer consultants will often help clients develop a clearer understanding of what they wish to achieve and it is an opportunity for both project teams to work collaboratively. We have a number of techniques to make this an enjoyable and rewarding process for all participants.
Step 3: Incorporating usability
User profiling provides important information for our team to develop designs that ‘work’, but for many larger projects it is necessary to develop a more detailed knowledge of the user, their behaviour and expectations. A detailed usability study at the very beginning of a project provides our designers with the information they need to develop the information architecture; categorising a site's content based on what is known about the users' needs and their behaviours.
Prototypes can then be created and tested before moving on to the final visual design stage. By incorporating a usability study at the beginning of a project lifecycle we arrive at a solution that combines a professional design with an effective and efficient architecture. Read our Website Development User Profile Report [PDF 236 Kb] for example information.
Step 4: Production and presentation of conceptual designs
Sigmer develops concept designs as static visuals which are presented to the client for their consideration. Most projects require us to create high quality custom graphics. This may include in-house production of digital artwork or photographs, commissioning of artwork or sourcing appropriate images and other media online.
Step 5: Client feedback
With a number of conceptual design ideas to consider, the client gives their feedback to our designers who progress the visuals, though an agreed number of iterations, towards the final design. Production of website templates or the application interface then begins.
Design to production
Our designers work closely with our developers at this stage to convert static concept designs into functional interfaces. We use cascading style sheets (CSS) to separate design from content and can offer our clients a wide range of browser compliance according to their particular needs. We design interfaces with a considered approach that focuses firmly on the user. This is key to our developing websites and application interfaces which both look professional and set high standards for usability and accessibility.
Step 6: Accessibility
Sigmer has a company policy to practice accessible web site design and always build our web interfaces to comply with standards currently required by law in the U.K. This means that our clients automatically benefit from our expertise when working with us on a new website design or web application and can rest assured that at the point of delivery they have a website that has enhanced usability, supports their business needs and is legal.
